Extinguisher
Verallia spa - Material recovery extinguisher for glass bottle production
Verallia Italia, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of glass containers for food and beverages, has entrusted Meccanica Cremonini with the design and production of the Redler material recovery extinguisher, intended to optimise the management of hot glass scraps generated during the production process.
Objective
The intervention stems from the need to recover non-compliant or unusable glass at two critical stages of production:
- Post-forming quality control: newly formed bottles are inspected using a vision system. If detected as defective or out-of-specification, they are ejected and conveyed to the extinguisher for recovery.
- Mould change: during the mould change, the glass continues to be cast but is no longer moulded, ending up directly in the extinguisher to be reintroduced into the production cycle.

Solution
Meccanica Cremonini designed, built, and installed an extinguisher consisting of cooling tanks with transport chain and water, designed to operate under high-temperature conditions and ensure the safe transport of molten glass.
The system is equipped with a water recirculation circuit, activated by pumps, which allows:
- The continuous inflow of cold water to cool the glass scraps and protect the subsequent rubber conveyor belt;
- The return of hot water to the cooling unit, ensuring thermal efficiency and continuous operation.
The cooled glass is then conveyed via a rubber conveyor belt to the storage silos, from where it is reintroduced into the melting cycle, offering a significant advantage in terms of sustainability and waste reduction.
Result
The system allowed Verallia to:
- Improve the recovery and management of non-compliant glass;
- Reduce line stoppages during mold changes;
- Optimize the efficiency of the production cycle through the immediate reuse of hot cullet.
A project demonstrating Meccanica Cremonini’s approach: integrating tailor-made solutions into industrial processes, with particular attention to reliability, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
Over the years, Meccanica Cremonini has collaborated with Verallia Italia S.p.A on numerous custom metalworking projects, built around the specific needs of production plants. Supplies have included small-scale equipment, complex metal structures, prefabricated elements, platforms, and steel components for industrial plants.
A relationship built on trust, flexibility, and technical expertise, aimed at turning every requirement into a concrete and functional solution.
