Octopus 4" and 3"

The Octopus pump is designed for transferring muddy water, even in the presence of solid bodies retained by the suction filter.
Thanks to its versatility, it can also be used for transferring food liquids: in this case, the user must verify that the materials in contact with the product comply with current regulations.

The machine is built with particular attention to hygiene and safety:

  • all parts in contact with the product can be easily cleaned before each use;
  • the connecting elements feature smooth surfaces, free of roughness or spaces where organic residues could accumulate;
  • the surfaces intended for contact with food liquids can be easily sanitized and disinfected.

The pump must not run dry for more than a few minutes.

It is not suitable for transferring hazardous, flammable liquids or liquids capable of generating potentially explosive atmospheres.

Correct operation

Octopus is a self-priming centrifugal pump with a single impeller with open blades and wide channels for the passage of solid particles.

The motor-pump coupling is monobloc. Motors must have the following flange connection:
SAE 609B 1" cylindrical shaft with keyway

Install the electric pump and motor pump units on stable foundations that are well anchored to the ground. Ensure that the parking foot of the trolley versions is locked in the support position by means of the fixing pin with the safety pin inserted to prevent the pin from coming out of its seat.

Clean the pipes thoroughly before connecting them to the pump: they must be fitted with flexible rubber connectors to dampen vibrations caused by pulsating flow. The suction and delivery pipes must have a diameter equal to or greater than that of the pump suction or delivery port.

Install the pump as close as possible to the fluid to be pumped, trying where possible to reduce the length of the suction pipe, thus reducing priming time and achieving a higher flow rate.

Before starting the pump, check that the system has been correctly completed. Check that all safety systems are active:

  • seal check: the seal is greased during assembly; no maintenance is required for the first 300 hours of pump operation;
  • filling the pump body: completely fill the pump body with the liquid to be pumped through the special cap located at the top of the pump body. The priming chamber remains full even after the pump has stopped; therefore, it is no longer necessary to fill it with liquid at the next stop;
  • priming: if the pump does not prime, do not operate it for more than two minutes to avoid heating the liquid and damaging the seal. For motor pumps, gradually increase the rotation speed to maximum. Never exceed the throttle lever's travel limit → by further increasing the number of revolutions for which the engine has been calibrated, the pump would require more power than the engine could provide. Check the engine fuel level, engine lubricant and air filter.
